Maersk Line launches enhanced Asia – U.S. East Coast Network, leveraging on Panama Canal expansion

In line with the recent Panama Canal expansion, Maersk Line announced several enhancements to the Asia-North America Network.

One of the major improvements are the faster transit times between East China and South Korea into North America. Using the new Panama Canal locks, Maersk Line is able to significantly reduce the transit days from Asian to North American ports. For example, the transit times from Shanghai and Ningbo to Newark, Norfolk and Baltimore are now 5-10 days faster, said Maersk Line.

"We are also adding new port calls in both origin and destination, giving our customers one of two direct services in the market serving Xiamen to North/South Atlantic, as well as better coverage of Asian and North American ports".

"From North America to Asia we’re adding an additional Busan call on our TP10 service, which reduces transit time from Savannah and Charleston to Busan by 11 and six days".

Implementation of the new network will be in week 35 (August 29 to September 4, 2016), according to Maersk Line information.
